Offering the ambiance of a tented bush camp of old safari lore, Explorer Camp at Shamwari Game Reserve is located on a plateau set among the only basalt and granite extrusions on Shamwari. A truly magical setting awaits.
Explorer Camp at Shamwari Private Game Reserve offers a unique walking experience ideal for guests looking for an adventurous and authentic option.
Our wilderness bush camp itinerary comprises a min 2-night trail. Operational Tuesday & Wednesday and Friday & Saturday with an optional 3rd night (Sunday) on request. The camp operates from October to April. Each tent is furnished for comfort in the wilderness.
The walking trails are hosted and guided by an armed qualified walking guide. Distances walked vary each day but can last up to 4 hours. A game viewing vehicle remains in camp and will be utilised depending on where guests walk that day, the trail may start from camp or depart camp by vehicle to visit another area of the reserve.
We regret that no persons younger than 16 years will be able to participate. Participants older than 65 years will be required to provide a medical clearance certificate in order to participate.
The camp site provides the true explorer ambiance and tents are placed in fairly close proximity without encroaching on other tents privacy. Wild animals are able to move through the camps at any time and although all safety precautions have been followed in setting up the camp; this remains a reality.

2 x comfortable single beds (king convertible), 1 x Three tier cupboard (small), 2 x LED light for night time use, 1 x En-suite bathroom with shower. Guest amenities include insect repellent, toilet paper, towels, tissues, sanitary bags as well as shower gel and shampoo.
