The Thanda Safari Private Game Reserve is in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal. Most of our team members are Zulu and therefore they are able to offer you a special introduction to the Zulu people in their community who generously share their living culture, ancient traditions and stories of their founding monarch, the legendary King Shaka Zulu. You can also experience a traditional Zulu homestead, visit a traditional Zulu healer or Sangoma, and experience spellbinding Zulu singing and war dancing. A visit here is truly remarkable and one you won’t forget in a hurry!

There are three accommodations here at Thanda Safari Private Game Reserve. Thanda Safari Lodge has nine bush suites, personifying luxurious exclusivity and African abundance. It also has including an inviting lounge, expansive deck and library overlooking a waterhole, cigar bar, stunning wine cellar and the Thanda Safari Spa. Villa iZulu offers complete privacy, elegance and indulgence with its five beautiful suites, a heated swimming pool, wine cellar, library, games room and a spacious viewing deck overlooking a water hole. It also has its own helicopter pad and separate accommodation for childminders and VIP security officers. Thanda Tented Camp, with its 15 luxury safari tents, offers an evocative into Africa experience. This is bush living as nature intended, giving you the opportunity to truly experience its sights, smells and sounds. The main area a large rim-flow pool, a spa tent, atmospheric Hemingway-style lounge and dining area featuring authentic African artworks.

If there is one thing you can guarantee on safari, it’s being fed and watered to the max! We can’t remember the last time we were on a safari and felt hungry… and Thanda is no exception. The team here can cater to any diet, and will spoil you rotten with the most delicious local wines and spirits. You’ll be able to enjoy delicious bush breakfasts (sizzling bacon and eggs, pancakes, muesli, muffins, fruits, cheeses, meats, coffees, teas… you name it), exquisite lunches on the gorgeous lodge decking and if that isn’t enough, we cannot more highly rate their campfire bush dinners! At Thanda they will take you out to one of their traditional African bomas and set up the most remarkable dinner all under the South Africa stars – true magic. If you’re here to celebrate a romantic occasion, we can organise for the chefs to put together a special menu and private dining setting in the bush, where you’ll eat under the African night sky, surrounded by the sights, sounds and sensations of the wild. AND – during those all-important game drives, you’ll be able to enjoy the sunrise and sunset refreshment stops at breath-taking locations overlooking the reserve - whether it’s sunrise coffee and rusks or sunset drinks and snacks, you’ll be reluctant to leave.
