Some cities boast rich culture, vibrant nightlife, a cosmopolitan atmosphere and extraordinary architecture, while others boast breathtaking landscapes and extraordinary natural wonders. Cape Town is lucky enough to be blessed with all of these attractions and so much more.
With its bustling harbour, world-class beaches, top-notch vineyards, and its mountainous surroundings brimming with diverse flora and fauna, Cape Town consistently captivates the hearts of all who visit.
There are plenty of international flights that go directly into Cape Town including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Hong Kong and New York. You could also go via Dubai, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) or Nairobi (Kenya) and many countries have direct flights into Johannesburg. From there it’s an easy two-hour flight to the Mother City with planes going regularly every day so plenty to choose from!
Cape Town is truly an all-round place, which is why it has been voted the ‘World’s Best City’ for the seventh year in a row by the Telegraph Travel Awards. The weather is sunny, dry, and absolutely stunning for nine months of the year with occasional rains falling in their winter (June through August). Although it can be a little hit-and-miss at that time of the year with being out and about, the benefit is that the costs are lower in terms of accommodation and those months are some of the best on safari so you really can’t go wrong.
This is a tough one. We don’t like to categorise all the amazing things one can do in Cape Town into just five ‘top things’ – there is so much to pick from! If you’re into your outdoor activities, you have a tremendous amount of nature right on your doorstep, with the Table Mountain National Park as well as the Cape Point Peninsula there to explore.
You also have the wide-open oceans just a hop skip and a jump away. If you’re less into the hiking, biking and paragliding then the city has tonnes of indoor museums and spaces to learn about the remarkable history of the country and the city itself.
The V&A is celebrated for all the beautiful shops and eateries you can enjoy with one of the most iconic views in the world: Table Mountain. From the top seafood restaurants one could hope to dine at, through to cute pubs which give you the option to ‘leave your husbands behind while you shop’, there really is so much to enjoy with a full day exploring this wonderful seaside spot. It isn’t rare to find a seal hanging out in the sun or sit with an ice-cream while you watch a local band strut their stuff in the shade of the Ferris wheel… which you will inevitably decide to go on ‘just because’.
Lucky us, there are more top restaurants in the city than you’d be able to fit into a two week stay. Cape Town has some of the best restaurants in the world and most of them require pre-booking and deposits, so do let us know what you fancy and we would be delighted to get them booked in for you.
The great thing about Cape Town is that it caters to all types of diet – with fresh seafood brought in from the ocean, delicious free-range meats cooked to absolute perfection or vegetarian and vegan delights which would turn even the staunchest carnivore, you’re in for a treat. Paired with some of the most prized wines in the world and we’re fairly sure you’ll want to move here (as much as we do!).
The history associated with Robben Island will surely bring a tear to your eye. It means something different to each person who goes there, but the main thing to note is that (to date) you will have the chance to have a tour around the prison with an ex-prisoner, someone who can tell you first-hand what it was like to live and breathe the conditions that Nelson Mandela lived.
Seeing his cell is harrowing and humbling, but ultimately we believe a visit to the island really brings to life how important each and every life is and how far we have come in the fight for equality.
The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront or V&A Waterfront as it is fondly referred to is set in one of the oldest working harbours in the southern hemisphere and is simply spectacular with Table Mountain as its backdrop on the one side and extensive views of the ocean and city bowl on the other. The V&A Waterfront is one of Africa's most visited destinations, attracting 24 million people every year.
